I am happy to be back at Southwest Metalsmiths. I have over 15 years of experience as a controller or above and enjoy the challenges and rewards that come with the construction environment. Our company has done some amazing work and we have successfully completed many challenging projects. I look forward to the opportunities ahead and the chance to create strong, enduring business relationships that benefit all stakeholders.

Carrier, Stephanie
Controller

I have worked in the Accounting Department at Southwest Metalsmiths since 2001. Most currently, as Controller, my primary tasks are to oversee the entire Accounting Department as well as handling Accounts Receivable.

I really enjoy working at SMI because I get to work with such a fun group of people. We strive to make each employee feel like they help make SMI what it is today. There is always such a buzz of activity in the building; whether it is the Engineering Department typing on their keyboards or the sound of welders and grinders out in the shop. It is really remarkable to be able to see a design go from a simple idea to a beautifully polished finished product.

I have been at SMI since 1997 . I’m certified in both purchasing and inventory management and I have a broad range of experience in the metals industry. I like the variety of products here and the challenge of building our projects within the parameters of a limited budget. I get the most satisfaction from buying the best quality at the best price. It’s great when I can do that and also have it delivered the next day!

Glasgow, Bob
Elevator Division Shop Foreman

I was a cabinet maker for 25 years before coming to SMI. This company and my job are very interesting to me because everything is custom. Its great to see designs and plans from architects actually built and functioning. I enjoy working with people and spend a great deal of my time training as well as supervising the fabrication of elevator interiors. I have been at SMI since 1998 and enjoy the variety of materials and designs we work with everyday. The Phoenician is probably my favorite project. Many parts of the design seemed impossible at first, but it all came together beautifully.

I have high standards for the quality of work I do and I try to encourage the people I work with to have those same standards. I really enjoy working with people and sharing the job skills I have learned in my since 1989 at SMI. What I really like about working at SMI is the variety of materials and types of projects. One of my favorite projects was Phoenix City Hall.

I came to SMI looking for a new challenge. I have been involved with ornamental metal fabrication and installation for 16 years. As an estimator in the metal division at SMI, my task is to provide our clients with competitive prices for quality SMI products. SMI's professionalism, from our staff to our products, is unmistakable. I'm happy to be apart of SMI and I stand behind our work.

Owens, Dale
Field Operations Manager

I have been with SMI since 1994. I enjoy working with the project managers and helping to coordinate the installation of a project. It is very interesting to me to see a set of drawings become a real tangible thing. What we build requires the use of many types of materials. Our installers have to pay attention to details and understand how to work with a variety of materials and types of installations. Every project is different.

Preininger, Edward
Shop Supervisor

In addition to welding and fabricating metals projects, my responsibilities also include assisting the Shop Supervisor with training and development of new personnel. Managing the production of the metals division requires a variety of skills. You have to know the technical part of your job, but you also have to enjoy working with people. I love the unique products we build and the fact that we have products all over the world. I get a lot of satisfaction from knowing that we can build things that other people may not know how to build.. I’ve been at SMI for 14 years. I was very proud of the Kiosks we built for Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington, D.C.. The architect and general contractor were very complimentary of our work and I personally supervised that project.

Senior, Richard
Engineering Supervisor

I’ve been drawing since childhood, so what better job could I have than one that allows me to draw for a living. I have twenty years of professional experience and have won two national design awards. I have been at SMI for 6 years and find it to be very challenging work because the architectural metals field is so diverse. My responsibilities also include supervising the engineering staff, training new employees, coordinating submittal drawings and fabrication drawings schedules. There is never a dull minute. Two of my favorite projects to draw were Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas and George Bush International Airport in Houston.

Somers, Eric
Welder/Fabricator

What makes my job unique is that my skills are multi-tasked and unlimited. The most important skill is willingness to learn. I have to be innovative and try new methods to solve fabrication problems. It is fascinating to me to take a drawing and turn it into reality. I enjoy my work and take pride in going the extra mile’ to make sure my standards are met before anyone else has a chance to see it. I love the variety of work we do at SMI. There is not any project we can’t do.

Smith, Mark
Metals Division Estimator

msmith@swmetalsmiths.com

I am very organized, meticulous and detail oriented about most things I do. My attention to detail really helps me in estimating project cost. I have a huge appetite for information. I need to know how things work and how they are constructed. Its all very interesting to me. What gives me the most satisfaction about my work is a successful bid. When I pick apart a large complicated project, sometimes working on it for weeks and then to have it sell and make money for the company....that is very satisfying. Some of my favorite projects are Staples Center, Phelps Dodge and Tempe Arts Center.

As a Project Manager I find the end results of our work most rewarding. Our work is usually the last touch to give a project that final shine. Everyone takes great pride in the craftsmanship of their work and I'm proud to be a part of such an outstanding team.

Southwest Metalsmiths is a company with an entrepreneurial spirit. When we begin a project we may not have all the answers, but when we finish we are experts. We may never do the same scope of work again, but we learn from our successes and our failures and we apply what we learn to every new project.

Opportunity to apply my creativity is essentially what makes me happy at work and home. You have to be creative and dynamic to respond to the variety of opportunities presented to Southwest Metalsmiths, Inc.

I am very proud of the work we do and of the people who work in this company.
